2010 REUNION

The fifth annual Charlie Company reunion will return to the Hilton Cincinnati Airport on June 4-5. The Hilton’s address is 7373 Turfway Road, Florence, KY 41042; the phone number is 859-371-4400. Be sure to tell the registration clerk you are attending the Charlie Company Reunion when making reservations.

REGISTER ONLINE! This link will allow you to make reservations from your computer! (This will will open in another window. Close that window when you finish and you will be back here.)

We have a block of 45 rooms reserved at the rate of $85 a night. This rate is good three days before and three days after the reunion dates. The Hilton will continue to honor this rate if we go over 45 rooms as long as space is available. The Hilton will release any unreserved rooms of our block for general sale at the cut-off date May 28, 2010. Any reservation received after the cut-off date will be accepted on a space and rate available basis. If you wish to cancel, please do so by 6 pm, hotel local time, on the day of arrival to avoid cancellation penalties. Cancellation of any reservation must be confirmed by the Hotel cancellation number.

MEALS - We have arrangements with the Hilton to prepare a buffet Friday and Saturday night at 6 p.m. for our group. We have to order these ahead of time and must make payment before the actual event. The cost for each meal will be $25 per person and this will include tax and gratuity. Orders and payment needs to be mailed by May 28. Click here for the menu and mailing address.

AGENDA - Antique Mall, Golf, Brunch

Two items have been arranged for the ladies (although they are not exclusive) so they will have the opportunity to get out of the Hospitality Room for a while:

Florence Antique Mall - trip will leave the Hilton at 12:30 and return before 3 p.m. Friday.

Yesterday's Cafe` & Tea Room. The Saturday brunch is dutch treat and we do not have to prepay but must give them a number for reservations and participants need to chose either Choice A or B from her menu.

Susan will start with a Non-Alcoholic Sparkler for all and next: Greens with fresh strawberries, feta, toasted walnuts & poppy seed dressing. Choice of one: A: Tea Sandwiches: Chicken Salad & Turkey on Honey Wheat (both will be served with this option) or B: Either Bacon Quiche or Asparagus Strata (vegetarian substitutions available with either choice). Almond Cookie hot tea is served with their famous Earl Grey Scones with lavender butter and finished with a choice from the pastry trolley. The cost will be $17.95 which includes all the above, but not tax & gratuity. Other beverages, such as wine, champagne, mimosas, coffee are available à la carte.

The first shuttle will leave the Hilton at 11:30 and return for the second group so the brunch can begin about 12 noon.

Boone Links Golf Course - (From golf czar chairman Mike Feltes) I am pleased to tell you that as part of the 2010 reunion, we are planning to tee off again on Saturday June 5th at LZ Boone Links (same course we played last year). We have 6 foursome tee times reserved for us. The plan is to split the 6 groups (if we have that many) into 2 groups of three foursomes, on the font and back nines, and assault the course simultaneously. Tee times are scheduled for 0800 hours, 0809 hours, and 0818 hours. In order not to be late, I suggest we mount choppers to leave the hotel by around 7:15.

So far, these are signed up to play this year: Delton Watt, James Chisholm, Tony Nunes, Bud Vincent, Richard Rey, Mark Knepp, Chuck Welegala, Mike Feltes and Mike Dove. If you are not signed up but would like to join us, please let us know so I can add you to the list.

The cost is the same as last year, $40.00 per man (including cart). Cash or credit card (no piasters or MPC).

We will play low score and once again compete for the highly coveted Charlie Company Cup. Last years champion was Vince Alagia with a low score of 88.

We only have a couple of weeks to get in shape, so lets get out there and drill to get ready for this important event (driving range, rifle range, whatever).

Thanks guys. Any questions, please contact me. I look forward to seeing everyone soon.

That is all. (glad he did not add "smoke 'em if you got 'em")

HATS & T-SHIRTS - Dan Malin will be taking orders for hats. The lady making the hats for him won't be able to make any until later this summer so these will have to be delivered later. It is not too late to order a hat from Dan.

The order has been placed for the t-shirts by Mike Stinnett. Only a few extra shirts will be available and the extras sell out each year so be sure to catch us early at the reunion with your request. We have had orders from those not able to attend the reunion and those will probably be mailed after the reunion by USPS flat rate boxes. We received some requests after the deadline and those will be filled with any unsold shirts at the reunion (if any). Here are a couple of pictures to give you an idea of how they look.

REGIONAL REFRESHMENTS - One of the perks we receive from the Hilton is being able to bring our own food and drinks into our hospitality room. Many hotels would not allow this and would charge to supply those things but not at Wal-Mart prices! Our cheap solution was to ask folks to bring a few samples of refreshments made near where they live.

This has been a fun and an easy way to have refreshments provided for our hospitality room. We have enjoyed these "care packages" each year so think of something to bring to represent the “home land”. If you want to help, don't feel like you have to provide enough for everyone. Thanks to the generosity of participants we have had plenty of drinks and snacks each year and have leftovers for take-home goodie bags.

MEMORABILIA - Find your old Vietnam photos and albums, orders, promotions, news letters... anything. Some of us are pack rats and we've seen everything at the reunion from steel pot liners to boots, P-38's, lifer shirts, medal displays, poncho liners, maps.... and more!

TO-DO LIST- Planning on attending the reunion? Here is a to-do list to help make sure you have done all you can for registration. All of the information is not complete at this time.

WHO IS REGISTERED?

This is the registration list of the Hilton as of May 27. Carl doesn't have three rooms. Donald Townsend and Dean Thiemkey are also attending! Kind of like our new four-man group of last year (Tony, Mike Dove, Len and Mark). Notice the arrival dates on the list... if you come before Friday, you won't be alone! As always, you do not have to stay at the Hilton to attend and if you are within driving distance and just want to show up Friday or Saturday, please feel free to join us!
